Category and item specifics changes
Between 11 and 13 September, we’re updating our category structure to make it easier for buyers to shop on eBay.ie. As a result, final value fees for listings in some categories may change and some categories may be removed.
We’re also aligning categories with eBay markets across Europe to better support international selling.
On over 43%* of eBay search results pages, buyers search and browse using the categories and items specifics listed in the left-hand navigation. By adding item specifics to your listings you'll help ensure that your items show up in all relevant searches, meaning they’ll be viewed by more buyers.
From 13 September, make sure you use item specifics for your listings, and list in the correct categories. This way, you’ll be sure that your items show up in all relevant searches, helping to drive your sales.

Why we're making changes to categories and item specifics
We're making these changes based on research and feedback from eBay buyers, to create a more intuitive marketplace. This will bring eBay more in line with industry standard classification.
The new category structure is also better aligned with other eBay markets, helping to increase your international trade opportunities.
The benefits of adding item specifics to your listings
Adding eBay item specifics to your products helps to provide buyers with a consistent search experience, especially on mobile devices. By doing this:
- You'll help ensure your item appears in the most relevant searches.
- Where we've created a new sub-category, your item may be moved in line with your item specifics, saving you time.
How to add item specifics to your listings
You can update active listings using:
- Sell Your Item form
- Selling Manager
- Selling Manager Pro
- Turbo Lister
- File Exchange
- Bulk edit and relist
Popular third-party application providers have been notified about the changes. Contact your provider for specific details.
We recommend that you use the item specifics suggested by eBay, as shown in your listing tool. However, if there's one that you want to add to describe your product, you can add a custom item specific.
